The Storyteller: Charcoal on Paper Print

from $11.00

It started when I bent close to the wood and noticed the waves and spirals in the dead roots of the tattered driftwood. For some reason Moby Dick came to mind, and soon I could see the little boat riding those ridges, the great white whale moving beneath the terrified souls aboard, and a pen scratching dark ink onto paper as the tale sprang to life. Don’t ask me why storytellers filled my head while I sketched this composition; it was literally the only thing I could think of as I worked. I remembered my family’s old tales, imagined the stories my son might one day tell, pictured friends trading yarns around campfires, remembering how stories seep into everything we do, everything we are, and everything we become. As I neared the end of the piece I thought about giving it a different title, but, as fate would have it, a friend sent me a timely reminder about trusting intuition, and I kept the title. Now I’m thinking the story you just read could probably be shorter.
